Ascento: simple, fast and versatile mobile robot for inspection and delivery

Abstract

The goal of project Ascento is to advance the development of wheeled bipedal robotic systems, bringing them out of the lab to the real world. Our solution combines the best of two worlds: It uses the versatility of legs to overcome stairs and obstacles, while its wheels allow for a fast, energy- and cost-efficient locomotion. This makes our platform the ideal mobile robot for real-world deployment in many applications.Our first focus lies on using the Ascento robot for industrial inspections and security patrols. Long term, our vision is to use Ascento to revolutionize the delivery of goods, from on-campus distribution up to last-mile delivery at night to reduce congestion in cities and increase efficiency.
