IMES Institute for Microelectronics, Embedded Systems, and Sensors (IMES)

Our focus is on applied research and development in electronics. In the fields of microelectronics, embedded systems, sensors, actuators, and electronics development, we push the boundaries for our customers in terms of size, power consumption, or speed—continuously advancing to the global forefront—Tiny to the Top.

The Institute of Microelectronics, Embedded Systems and Sensor Technology (IMES) was established as part of the ‘MICROSWISS’ national funding programme. The aim of the federal government's initiative was to promote the technological progress of SMEs and to ensure Switzerland's technological integration. To ensure this, so-called MICROSWISS centres were set up. The ‘MICROSWISS Centre Rapperswil’ was established in 1992 at the former University of Applied Sciences (HSR). In 2000, it was renamed the ‘Institute for Microelectronics’. The Embedded Systems group was added in 2002. With the founding of OST - Ostschweizer Fachhochschule, the institute has been part of OST since 2020.

Since 1992, IMES has realised more than 100 industrial projects for a wide variety of customers. Throughout its history, IMES has made a significant contribution to progress in the fields of microelectronics and embedded systems. In addition to several awards, various scientific publications, which have been published and discussed in the world's most renowned specialist journals, bear witness to this.
