Department of Systems Analysis, Integrated Assessment and Modelling

Our research activities are organized in 5 groups that are strongly interlinked among each other and with most research departments at Eawag:

Systems Analysis and Water Management

Description and handling of uncertainty in modelling for research and environmental decision support. Application focus on surface water management.

Hydrological Modelling

Hydrology and water quality modelling at the catchment scale.

Ecological Modelling

Development of mechanistic models of aquatic ecosystems. Application of these models in environmental research and decision support for environmental management.

Mathemathical Methods in Environmental Research

Development of stochastic models of complex natural and social systems and algorithms for parameter inference and prediction.

Data Science for Environmental Research

Use of machine learning and statistical physics methods to tackle problems with large data sets from systems with a large number of interacting agents.
